Mohr's salt

Common name for ammonium iron(II) sulfate hexahydrate, (NH ₄ ) ₂ Fe(SO ₄ ) ₂・6H ₂ O. Also called Mohr's salt, named after German Karl Friedrich Mohr (1806-1879). Along with alum and Tutton's salt, it is considered a typical example of a double salt. However, its actual structure is a double salt of iron(II) complex salts such as [Fe(H ₂ O) ₆ ]SO ₄・(NH ₄ ) ₂ SO _4. It does not effloresce in air and is less susceptible to oxidation in air than other iron(II) salts, so it is used in analytical chemistry to make standard solutions of iron(II).

硫酸鉄(Ⅱ)アンモニウム六水和物(NH₄)₂Fe(SO₄)₂・6H₂Oの通称。ドイツのモールKarl Friedrich Mohr（1806―1879）にちなんだものでモーア塩ともいう。ミョウバン、タットン塩とともに複塩の代表的な例とされている。ただし実際の構造は[Fe(H₂O)₆]SO₄・(NH₄)₂SO₄のような鉄(Ⅱ)錯塩の複塩である。空気中で風解せず、ほかの鉄(Ⅱ)塩と比べて空気中で酸化されにくいので、分析化学で鉄(Ⅱ)の標準溶液をつくるのに用いられる。
