A former town in Monou County in northeastern Miyagi Prefecture. The Oppa River flows east along the southern border and empties into Oppa Bay. Most of the area is hilly, with little arable land, and livestock and rice are cultivated. Aquaculture of seaweed, kelp, and scallops is also practiced. Golden eagles (a natural monument) live on Mt. Okinakura. In April 2005, it was incorporated into Ishinomaki City along with Kahoku Town, Ogatsu Town, Kawanami Town, Monou Town in Monou County, and Oshika Town in Oshika County. 60.96 km2 . 宮城県北東部，桃生(ものう)郡の旧町。南境を追波(おっぱ)川が東流，追波湾に注ぐ。大部分丘陵地で耕地が狭く，畜産と稲作が行われる。ワカメ，コンブ，ホタテなどの養殖漁業も行う。翁倉(おきなくら)山にイヌワシ（天然記念物）が生息する。2005年４月桃生郡河北町，雄勝町，河南町，桃生町，牡鹿郡牡鹿町と石巻市へ編入。60.96km2。4408人（2003）。
