Terrace - Terrace (English spelling)

An unroofed platform in front of a building, or a terraced area that juts out over a garden or street. It is a flat plateau made by piling up earth and often covering the top with concrete or bricks. It is usually built to enjoy the garden or scenery, but some are built to hold ceremonies or to observe ceremonies held in the garden in front of it. It also refers to the flat roof of a building. It refers to the part of a road between the roadway and the sidewalk that is made in a park style.

建物の前面に設けられた屋根のない台状の場所や、庭園、街路に張り出した壇状の場所。土を盛り上げて上部を平らにした台地で、上部にコンクリート、れんがなどを敷き詰めることが多い。普通、庭園や風景を観賞するために設けるが、その上で儀式をするため、またはその前の庭で行われる儀式などを観閲するために設けられたものもある。また建物の陸(ろく)屋根のこと。道路で公園風につくられた車道と歩道の間の部分をいう。
