Ougift goat (English name) Euplexaura erecta

Japanese: オウギフトヤギ（英語表記）Euplexaura erecta

A coelenterate (cnidaria) of the family Myrtle family in the class Anthozoa. It is found south of Sagami Bay, and grows on the seabed at depths of 60 to 200 meters. The branches are about 5 mm in diameter, and branch out at almost right angles from the thicker branch to form fan-shaped colonies 25 to 30 cm high. The coenchyma is pale reddish purple or coral-colored and thick, with barrel-shaped bone fragments scattered within. The polyp can be completely withdrawn into the coenchyma. The central bony axis is blackish and hard, and is difficult to bend. The bivalve mussel, a Japanese oyster, may be attached to the top of the branch by its byssus.

花虫綱フトヤギ科の腔腸動物(刺胞動物)。相模湾以南に分布し，水深60～200mの海底に着生する。枝の太さは直径5mm内外で，太い枝からほぼ直角に分岐し，高さ25～30cmの扇形に広がった群体をつくる。共肉は淡赤紫色やサンゴ色で厚く，中にはたる状の骨片が散在している。ポリプは共肉の中に完全にひっこめることができる。中心にある骨軸は黒っぽくて固く，曲がりにくい。枝の上に二枚貝のウグイスガイが足糸で付着していることがある。
