[Modern Communism]
One of the first uses of the word communism is said to be in E. Cabé's "Comment je suis communiste et mon credo communiste" (Communist Creed) published in the early 1840s. The word socialism had come into use in England and France around the same time, but while socialism advocated social ownership or nationalization of the means of production, communism advocated a more thorough equalization of property, including consumer goods.
