Born in 1349. Became a councilor in 1360. Favoured by Emperor Godaigo, he surpassed more than ten other candidates to become Gon Chunagon in 1371. He repeatedly resigned and returned to his post, and was promoted to Gon Dainagon in 1372 under the Kenmu Restoration, but became a monk the following year. He was ranked Shonii.
