A major American oil company engaged in refining crude oil and wholesaling petroleum products. It started in 1936 as Caltex Petroleum Corp., a 50-50 joint venture between Standard Oil of California (later Chevron) and Texaco. In 2001, Chevron acquired Texaco and the company was renamed ChevronTexaco, and in 2005 it was renamed Chevron Corporation.
