Nou [town] - Nou
An old town in Nishikubiki County in southern Niigata Prefecture. Facing the Sea of ​​Japan, the Nishikubiki Mountains are close to the coast. The central settlement at the mouth of the Nou River developed as a post town, and is served by the Hokuriku Main Line and Hokuriku Expressway. Rice is the main industry, but the fishing industry is also thriving. There is Hakusan Shrine and a habitat for the Japanese cicada (a natural monument). The coast is beautiful. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Aomi Town, Nishikubiki County, and Itoigawa City. 150.48 km2 . Population: 10,771 (2003).
