...In the Tohoku region, there is also a legend that if a woman goes out at night with a comb in her mouth, it will ward off evil spirits. At Kushida Shrine in Toyama, it is said that a giant snake once swallowed a rice planting woman, but the woman's comb got stuck in her throat and she died, so the shrine enshrines the comb as a sacred object. It is also said that if a tooth on a comb suddenly breaks off, it is a sign of misfortune, and that if you wear a broken comb, you will be tricked by a fox.
