Kurfürstendamm - Kurfürstendamm

...Berlin, which had a population of 3.86 million as a result of the Greater Berlin era, welcomed a large number of refugees and immigrants from Eastern Europe as the capital of the Weimar Republic, and entered the Golden Twenties as a literal "world city" with the recovery of Germany's postwar economy. During this time, Berlin was the center of "Weimar culture," and flourished not only in the music and theater worlds in which Klemperer, B. Walter, Furtwängler, Hindemith, and Schoenberg were active (Brecht's "The Threepenny Opera" premiered in Berlin in 1928), but also in popular culture such as film and cabaret, and the area around Kurfürstendamm (the main street of the former West Berlin) became a new downtown area with movie theaters, cafes, and cabarets. However, this prosperity did not last long, and in 1932, during the Great Depression, Berlin alone had more than 600,000 unemployed people.
