Mountaineer. Born in Gunma Prefecture, he dropped out of Tokyo University. He loved mountain climbing from his youth, and joined the Japan Alpine Club in 1913. While editing the journal "Sangaku," he climbed Mt. Yari, Mt. Yakushi, Mt. Tsurugidake, and Mt. Tateyama without a guide together with Tabe Shigeharu (1884-1972). In 1916, he made many climbs in the Chubu region, including a traverse of Mt. Asahi, Mt. Yukikura, Mt. Shirouma, and Harinoki Pass, while studying the Himalayas. He published many mountaineering travelogues and mountain research, which had a great influence on the Japanese mountaineering world. In 1935, he became the third president of the Japan Alpine Club. His main works include "Memories of the Mountains," two volumes (1938, 1939). Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
