[Pharmacognosy]
The study of crude drugs is called pharmacognosy. The term pharmacognosy was coined in 1880 when Ooi Gendō translated the German word Pharmakognosie as pharmacognosy. There was the ancient word kigusuri, and the word honzogaku for the study of Japanese and Chinese medicine, but pharmacognosy was a newly created word to mean that it is treated as a field of modern science.
