German poet. Born into an old baronial family in Westphalia, she lived a relatively peaceful life without any particular external upheaval until the end of her life in a mansion on Lake Constance. However, her quiet life on the outside only deepened her inward-looking thoughts, from which she produced many exquisite works. As a devout Catholic, she also wrote many religious poems, but her most distinctive feature is her method of carefully examining natural images down to the last detail and expressing them like landscapes in miniature paintings.

ドイツの詩人。ウェストファーレンの古い男爵家の娘として生まれ，ボーデン湖畔の館で世を終えるまで，外面的には格別の波乱を経験することもなしに，独身のままほぼ平穏な生涯を送った。しかし外部生活が静かだっただけ，内向した思念の奥行きは一層深められ，そこから数々の精妙な作品が生み出された。敬虔なカトリック信者として宗教詩の類も多く書いたが，何よりも，自然の形象をその細部にいたるまで丹念に確かめながら，細密画の風景のように表現する手法が特徴的である。
