Kinzanji Temple

This temple is located in Geumsan-ri, Geumsan-myeon, Gimje-si, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea. It is called Moaksan Geumsanbulsa. It is said to have been founded in 599 (reign of King Bo-won 1) during Baekje, and rebuilt by the priest Jinpyo in 766 (reign of King Hyegong 2) during Silla. It was the center of the Beosang sect. It is also famous as the place where Wang Jin-pyeong was imprisoned by the divine sword of Later Baekje at the end of the Silla period. In the mid-Goryeo period (918-1392), Jin-o was the abbot, and in addition to writing many books, he founded the Buddhist sutra carving center and devoted himself to proofreading and opening the books of the great monk Jion. A large temple complex was later constructed, but it was reduced to ashes during the Imjin War (1592-96, Toyotomi Hideyoshi's invasion of Korea). It was subsequently rebuilt one after another, and is now known for its large-scale architecture. The flagpole pillars, five-story stone pagoda, and hexagonal multi-story stone pagoda within the temple are said to date back to the time of the temple's founding, and became the prototypes for the stone pagodas that flourished during the Goryeo Dynasty. The Great Jakkojeon Hall, the Great Treasure Hall, and especially the Mirokujeon Hall are notable national treasures in the history of architecture.

韓国（大韓民国）、全羅北道(ぜんらほくどう／チョルラブクト)金堤(きんてい／キムジェ)市金山面金山里にある寺。母岳山金山仏寺という。百済(ひゃくさい)の599年（法王1）に創建され、新羅(しらぎ)の766年（恵恭王2）真表律師によって再建されたと伝える。法相(ほっそう)宗の中心をなした寺院であった。新羅末期の後百済(ごひゃくさい)神剣によって王甄萓(しんけん)が幽閉された場所としても有名である。高麗(こうらい)（918～1392）中期には真応が住持し、多くの著書を著すとともに、経板彫造院を創設し、慈恩(じおん)大師基(き)の著書の校正開板に意を尽くした。のち大伽藍(がらん)が結構されたが、壬辰倭乱(じんしんわらん)（1592～96、豊臣秀吉(とよとみひでよし)の朝鮮侵略）で灰燼(かいじん)に帰した。その後、次々と復興され、現在は大規模な建造物をもって知られる。寺中の幢竿(どうかん)支柱や五層石塔、六角多層石塔は創建当時のものとされ、高麗時代に盛行をみる石塔の原型となった。大寂光殿、大蔵殿、わけても弥勒(みろく)殿は建築史上注目される国宝建築である。
