Ginza Line

[Japanese Subway]
Japan's first subway opened in 1927, running 2.2 km between Asakusa and Ueno, run by Tokuji Hayakawa's Tokyo Underground Railway Company. In 1934, the Ueno-Shinbashi section was opened, and in 1939, the Tokyo Rapid Transit Company opened the Shinbashi-Shibuya section, completing the current Ginza Line's 14.3 km length. In 1941, these two companies merged to form the Teito Rapid Transit Authority.

From Teito Rapid Transit Authority

The lines are the Ginza Line, Marunouchi Line, Hibiya Line, Tozai Line, Chiyoda Line, Yurakucho Line, Hanzomon Line, and Namboku Line. The Ginza Line (Asakusa to Shibuya) was formed in 1941 by integrating the lines built by the Tokyo Underground Railway, founded in 1920 and Tokyo Rapid Railway, founded in 1934, which was the first subway in Asia.
