Located in New Haven, Connecticut, it is the third oldest private university in the United States and a member of the Ivy League. Founded in 1701, it was renamed in 1718 after its benefactor, E. Yale. In 1847, it established the first doctoral program in the United States. It consists of an undergraduate college, and graduate-level specialized faculties and graduate schools in medicine, divinity, law, art, architecture, music, forestry, nursing, theater, and organization and management. It was a prestigious school on a par with Harvard University as an all-boys school, but became coeducational in 1969. Its attached library (total number of books: approximately 12 million (2012)) is world-famous. → Related articles Connecticut [State] | Monti Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
