A group of warriors in Bungo Province during the Heian Period. Ogata-go, Ono County, Bungo Province, appears in the Wamyōshō, and Ogata-sho in the Usa Daikyō. The Oga clan was based in this area. There is a legend that the Bungo Oga clan is the descendant of Mt. Sobo Myōjin, and is said to be the indigenous descendants of the Miwa clan of Yamato, or the ancestor of the Usa Hachiman Shrine Daigūji family, but in short, it is believed that they were the governor of Ono County in Bungo for generations. The most famous in history is Koreyoshi (Tadaharu), who was active during the Genpei period. Koreyoshi initially belonged to the Taira clan, who controlled Dazaifu, but after Minamoto no Yoritomo raised an army, he sided with the Minamoto clan and formed an anti-Taira force with warriors from central and northern Kyushu, such as the Hizen Matsuura Party, the Higo Kikuchi clan, and the Aso clan, and became its central force.
