A maid created by British children's author Pamela Lyndon Travers (1906-96) in Mary Poppins (1934). She appears on the East Wind to the Banks family, shows the children many wonders, and then leaves when the West Wind comes. A very like a classic Dutch doll, she is fashionable and quick-tempered, connecting the ordinary with the extraordinary, deepening the meaning of everyday life and informing us of the existence of a world larger than the visible one.
