...There are many different types of banks, and they operate a variety of financial services simultaneously. In other words, banks are business organizations that conduct (all or part of) the following business activities: accepting and collecting funds, remittance, payment, lending, investment, dealing (buying and selling already issued bonds), foreign exchange transactions, and providing services such as safe deposit boxes and trusts. However, what makes banks special is that they accept deposits from the general public and that (at least some of) these deposits function as a means of payment settlement.
