A monetary system in which both gold and silver are standard currencies. It is also called a bimetal system or a bistandard system. Gold and silver are in circulation as minted coins, and the gold and silver ratio is legally set, but since the separation between the market price of gold and silver and the legal ratio is unavoidable, it is difficult to maintain. It was implemented in France, the United States, Japan (1878-1897), and other countries in the late 19th century as a way to deal with gold shortages. → Lame standard system → Related topics Gold-beating policy | Silver standard system | Single standard system | Standard system Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
