Ashina - No legs

Japanese: 阿史那氏 - あしなし

Turk The name of the ruling clan of the Tokuts. It has a legend that its ancestor was a wolf. Originally, they lived in the southwest of the Altai Mountains and were subordinate to the Rouran, but they expanded their power by utilizing iron-forging technology backed by abundant mineral resources. Since the first Turk Khan, Tumen (Bumin Khan, Irlik Khan), who defeated the Rouran in 552 and claimed dominion over North Asia, except for the period of the Tang Dynasty's rule from 630 to 682 (4th year of the Zhenguan era to 1st year of the Yijun era), men of the Ashina clan married the Ashide clan and monopolized the position of Turk Khan. However, the Western Turks were sometimes under the control of the Turgeshi.

突厥（とつくつ）の支配氏族の名。狼を始祖とする伝説をもつ。元来アルタイ山脈の南西にいて柔然に従属していたが，豊富な鉱産資源を背景にした鍛鉄技術を生かして勢力を拡大した。552年に柔然を討滅して北アジアに覇を唱えた初代突厥可汗の土門(ブミン可汗，イルリク(伊利)可汗)以来，630‐682年(貞観4‐永淳1)の唐の羈縻（きび）支配時代を除き，阿史那氏系の男子が，阿史徳氏と通婚して突厥可汗位を独占した。ただし西突厥はテュルギシュ(突騎施)の手中に入ったこともある。
