Forbidden animals

...The Japanese wolf was not hunted nationwide unless it caused harm to humans. Other well-known examples include the deer in Nara, Kashima, and Kinkazan, the Asiatic black bear in the Kiso mountains, and the swans in the Shiroishi region of Miyagi Prefecture. In western Japan, monkeys were considered to be prohibited animals. In addition, various taboos were observed when capturing large wild animals.
