Ataka Collection

...After the Showa era, there were the collections of Hatakeyama Kazukiyo (now the Hatakeyama Memorial Museum), which collected tea ceremony utensils centering on famous pieces such as the Aburaya Katatsuki, Matsunaga Yasuzaemon's collection of Buddhist art and tea ceremony utensils, including the Emergence of the Golden Coffin of the Buddha (after his death, it was moved to the Tokyo National Museum, Fukuoka Art Museum, etc.), the modern paintings and sculptures of the Ohara Museum of Art, which was collected by the painter Kojima Torajiro and established by Ohara Magosaburo. After the war, there was the collection of the founder of the World Messiah Church, Okada Mokichi (whose diverse works include Korin's Red and White Plum Blossoms, Ninsei's Iroe Wisteria Design Tea Jar and Hand-painted Castle), which is now housed and exhibited at the MOA Museum of Art (Atami City), and Ishibashi Shojiro's collection of modern Western paintings (now the Bridgestone Museum of Art), but the Ataka Collection is particularly noteworthy. This collection of ancient Oriental ceramics was collected by Eiichi Ataka of the former Ataka Sangyo Co., Ltd., and is the world's largest collection of Yi Dynasty ceramics in particular.

…昭和に入って後は，〈油屋肩衝〉などの名物を中心に茶道具を集めた畠山一清(現，畠山記念館)，松永安左衛門の《釈迦金棺出現図》をはじめとする仏教美術や茶道具の収集(没後，東京国立博物館，福岡市立美術館等へ)，画家児島虎次郎が収集し大原孫三郎によって設立された大原美術館の近代絵画，彫刻などがあげられる。戦後では今日MOA美術館(熱海市)に収蔵，公開されている世界救世教教祖岡田茂吉のコレクション(光琳筆《紅白梅図》，仁清作〈色絵藤花文茶壺〉〈手鑑翰墨城〉など多岐にわたる)，西洋近代絵画を中心とする石橋正二郎のコレクション(現，ブリヂストン美術館)などがあげられるが，特筆すべきは〈安宅コレクション〉であろう。旧安宅産業の安宅英一による東洋古陶磁の収集で，とりわけ李朝陶磁では世界に冠絶したコレクションである。…
