Kiryumon (English spelling) kui-long-wen

Japanese: 夔竜文 - きりゅうもん（英語表記）kui-long-wen

A type of design used on bronze vessels from the Shang and Zhou dynasties in China. It is a fictional animal with a dragon body, one leg, horns and hands. If its mouth curves up and down, it is called a Kuilong, and if its upper lip curves down to form a beak, it is called a Kuiphoon. The Kuilong design is a side-view animal design, and is often used together with a thunder design. In designs from the Shang to the early Western Zhou period, a pair of Kuilongs are intertwined, but from the mid-Western Zhou period onwards, they are expressed as single or continuous designs, and the Kuilong is sometimes long-bodied and inverted backwards, sometimes closer to a snake, and sometimes with both heads in an S-shape.

中国，殷・周代の青銅器に用いられた文様の一種。竜身で足が1本，角と手がついている架空の動物で，口が上下にそりかえっているものを夔竜，上唇が下に曲って嘴状になっているものを夔鳳という。夔竜文は側面獣形の文様で，多くは雷文とともに用いられる。殷から西周前期の文様では1対の夔竜がからみ合う形であるが，西周中期以降では単独，または連続の文様として表現され，夔竜は胴長となり後方に反転したもの，蛇身に近くなったもの，両頭がS字形になったものがある。
