Seiminyojutsu - The art of the people

A Chinese agricultural book written by Jia Sixie, the governor of the Northern Wei dynasty. It was written between 532 and 544, between the end of the Northern Wei dynasty and the Eastern Wei dynasty. It is the oldest surviving complete work. The title means "Techniques for the People's Lives," and it compiles all previous documents on agricultural techniques and describes new farming methods for dry land farming. It consists of 10 volumes and 92 articles, plus miscellaneous notes at the beginning (added by authors other than the original author). Volume 1 is an overview of cultivation, volume 2 is cultivated crops, volume 3 is orchard vegetables and farming calendars, volume 4 is fruit trees, volume 5 is tree planting, sericulture and dye crops, volume 6 is livestock, livestock processing, dairy farming, fish farming and watercress, volume 7 is sake brewing in brewing, volume 8 is seasonings and meat recipes in brewing, volume 9 is cooking, i.e. grains, pickled meat, pickles, candies and others, and volume 10 is products from outside Saigai, south of the Huai River and the south. The entire text is 70,000 large characters and 40,000 small characters with notes.

中国の農書。著者は北魏(ほくぎ)の太守であった賈思勰(かしきょう)。532年ないし544年、北魏末から東魏の間のころ著された。完本として残る最古のもの。書名は「民の生活の技術」といった意味で、それまでの農業技術に関する文献を集大成し、新たに乾地農業についての農法を記している。10巻92編および巻頭雑説（これは原著者以外の添入）よりなり、巻一は耕種総論、巻二は耕圃(こうほ)作物、巻三は園圃蔬菜(えんぽそさい)・農家暦、巻四は果樹、巻五は栽植樹・養蚕・染料作物、巻六は畜産・畜産加工・酪農・養魚・水菜、巻七は醸造のうち酒造、巻八は醸造のうち調味料・肉調理法、巻九は調理すなわち穀食・漬け肉・漬け物・飴(あめ)その他、巻10は塞外(さいがい)・淮河(わいが)以南・南方の物産、の構成である。全文は大字7万、小字注記4万である。
