The artistic themes associated with the Garden of Gethsemane include (1) the Prayer of Gethsemane, followed by (2) the Arrest of Christ (the Kiss of Judas). In (1), Christ kneels (or lies on the ground) in front of a rocky mountain that represents the Mount of Olives, and is comforted by God (suggested by his upper body or right hand) or an angel holding a chalice (sometimes holding a cross or the instruments of suffering) that appear in the air.
