In the ancient Japanese state of the 5th and 6th centuries, a group of farmers who were owned by the imperial court, the emperor, the empress, or the princes, bore the royal name or the title of Miya, and provided Mitsugi (tributes) and Etachi (services) to them. Both were bemin, and had a common character, but the distinction between the two is not necessarily clear. In the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, the "Shishiro" is said to have been placed "in place of" a "child" since there was no "child," but "shiro" is a word that refers to the substance or object of something that has a name, so it is better to think of it as being set "for a child," and in this respect the Nadai who bore the name Miya would be the same.
