The lord of Matsumae Domain in the late Edo period and the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The sixth son of the 9th lord Matsumae Akihiro. Born on November 15, 1822. His childhood name was Einosuke, then Tamekichi, and after assuming the title he changed his name to Takahiro. In 1849 (Kaei 2), he took over the title when the lord Masahiro retired, but in the same year he was given a special order by the shogunate to be the lord of the castle and ordered to build a new castle. The new castle was completed in 1854 (Ansei 1) and was called Fukuyama Castle. However, with the opening of the port of Hakodate the following year, in 1855, most of his former territories, except for those surrounding the castle, became Shogunate territory, and a total of 30,000 koku was allocated to Yanagawa, Date County, Mutsu Province (Fukushima Prefecture) and Higashine, Murayama County, Dewa Province (Yamagata Prefecture) as replacement territories. In 1863 (Bunkyu 3), he was appointed as the Shogunate's Magistrate of Temples and Shrines, but resigned soon after. In July of the following year, 1864 (Genji 1), he became a Roju-ranked member of the Council of Elders and Chief Magistrate of the Navy and Army (the following year he became Chief Commander of the Navy and Army), and in November he was appointed as a Roju. After that, he worked together with Abe Masato, a senior councilor who advocated the expansion of the shogunate's power, and in 1865 (Keio 1), he was dismissed by imperial decree along with Abe over the issue of opening the port of Hyogo. The following year, he returned to his domain and died in Matsumae on April 25th.
