A Nordic ski event. Compete over a certain distance on skis in the fastest time. The official name is cross-country. It is also called ski racing or Langlauf (German). The course is an equal mix of flat, uphill, and downhill sections, and the maximum elevation difference is 200m for men's 10km races, 250m for women's 5km races, and 100m for women's 10km races and 150m for women's 10km races. In races over 30km, there are food stations. If the leading runner does not clear the course when the signal to overtake is given, the runner is disqualified. The races are contested using either classical or skating running styles, or a combination of both styles. At the 2014 Sochi Olympics, the men's events were a 15km classical, a 50km freestyle, a 4x10km relay, a combined, a sprint, and a team sprint, while the women's events were a 10km classical, a 30km freestyle, a 4x5km relay, a combined, a sprint, and a team sprint. There is also a biathlon, which combines distance events with rifle shooting.

スキー競技のノルディック競技種目の一つ。スキーを滑らせて一定の距離を走る速さを競う。cross-country（クロスカントリー・レース）が正式名称。スキーレーシングski racing，ラングラウフLanglauf（ドイツ語）とも。コースは平地・上り・下りを均等に配し，標高差の最高限度は男子10kmで200m，15km以上で250m，女子5kmで100m，10km以上で150m。また30km以上のレースでは給食所が設けられる。追い抜く合図によって先行走者がコースを空けないと失格になる。走法の異なるクラシカル走法とスケーティング走法のどちらか一方，または両走法を組み合わせた複合によって争われる。2014年のソチオリンピックでは，男子がクラシカル15km，フリー50km，４×10kmリレー，複合，スプリント，団体スプリント，女子がクラシカル10km，フリー30km，４×５kmリレー，複合，スプリント，団体スプリントで競われた。距離競技とライフル射撃競技を組み合わせるバイアスロンもある。
