Japanese: 知多[市] - ちた

A city in the northwest of Chita Peninsula, Aichi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1970. The main settlements are the old town areas of Yahata, Okada, and Asahi, and the Meitetsu Tokoname Line runs through the city. The Aichi Irrigation Canal runs through the hills, making vegetable cultivation popular, but farmland has been decreasing due to housing development in the 1970s. Since ancient times, it has been a center of Chita cotton textile production, but since the 1960s, the reclaimed land on the coast of Ise Bay has developed into an industrial area, and industries such as energy-related, food, and transportation equipment are thriving. Shinmaiko Beach is located at the southern end. 45.90 ^km2 . Population: 84,768 (2010).

愛知県知多半島北西部の市。1970年市制。八幡，岡田，旭など旧町地区が主集落で，名鉄常滑(とこなめ)線が通じる。愛知用水が丘陵地に通じ野菜の栽培が盛んであるが，1970年代の宅地開発に伴い農地は減少している。古来，知多綿織物生産の一中心であるが，1960年代から伊勢湾岸の埋立地が工業地域として発展，エネルギー関連および食品，輸送用機器などの工業が盛ん。南端に新舞子海水浴場がある。45.90km²。８万4768人（2010）。
