...The monkey Sun Wukong, who appears in the novel Journey to the West, is a representative of the monkeys that suddenly became dominant after the Song Dynasty, but his image is influenced by both monkey folklore and elements of the Hanumat from faraway India. The snub-nosed monkeys (golden thread monkeys, yangbi monkeys) that live in the mountains deep in China are also the subject of many legends due to their beautiful golden fur and unique appearance (blue face and upturned nostrils), and monkeys known as wild men and women continue to provide topics of conversation to this day.
