Catarrhinoceros monkeys - Modern monkeys

A general term for all monkeys in the order Primates, suborder Anthropoidea, excluding Capuchinoidea (platyrrhini). In other words, this class Catarrhini is a general term for the superfamily Cercopithecinoidea and the superfamily Anthropoidea (Hominoidea). The former consists of one family, the latter two, and the name was given to Capuchin monkeys, who have a wide nostril spacing, based on their narrow morphological characteristics.

哺乳(ほにゅう)綱霊長目真猿亜目からオマキザル上科（広鼻猿類）を除いたものの総称。すなわち、この類Catarrhiniはオナガザル上科とヒトニザル上科（ヒト上科）をまとめたものの総称である。前者は1科、後者は2科からなり、鼻孔間隔の広いオマキザル類に対して、それの狭い形態的特性に基づいて与えられた名称。
