Serai Seraihi [Competition]

〘Noun〙 (A variation of "seriai") 1. A ship's word for a strong wind. ※Kaisen Anjoroku (1810), about shipping on a ship: "When we encounter calm seas and strong winds" 2. It refers to the situation when the tide flows in the opposite direction to the wind, causing waves to form.

〘名〙 (「せりあい」の変化した語)① 強風をいう船方ことば。※廻船安乗録(1810)廻船運漕の事「又凪(なぎ)にあひ、せらひ(闘風)にあふ時は」② 潮の流れの方向と、風の方向とが反対になって波立つことをいう。
