One of the world's largest oil companies. Texas Co. was established in 1901 as a non-Standard oil company to develop oil fields in Texas, USA, and rivaled the Standard Oil Group in the 1920s. In 1926, the company changed its name to Texas Corp., and in 1959, it became Texaco. Its overseas activities were conducted through a joint sales subsidiary, Caltex, with Standard Oil of California (later Chevron), which also invested in Nippon Oil and Koa Oil, but in 1967, it dissolved its partnership in Europe. In the 1970s, about half of its crude oil was sourced from Saudi Arabia, but in 1984, it increased its domestic crude oil procurement rate by acquiring Getty Oil. In 1998, it merged with Shell to form Equilon Enterprises LLC, and in 1998, Shell, Saudi Aramco and the three companies formed Motiva Enterprises LLC. In 2001, it merged with Chevron to become ChevronTexaco. → Related topics ARAMCO [company] | Mitsubishi Oil [stock] | Major Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
