Also known as an electromagnetic current meter or electromagnetic ocean current meter. A marine measuring instrument that measures the speed of surface ocean currents. Seawater (a conductor) flowing through the Earth's magnetic field generates an electric current proportional to the flow speed due to electromagnetic induction. The resulting potential difference is measured from a ship by inserting two electrodes, one near the far end, into the sea, and the flow speed is calculated from this.

電磁流速計，電磁海流計とも。表層海流の流速を測定する海洋測器。地球の磁場を流れる海水（導体）には電磁誘導によってその流速に比例する電流が発生している。これによる電位差を船上から遠近二つの電極を海中に入れることによって測定し，それから流速を求めるもの。
