A marble statue of an athlete scraping off sweat and dust with a tool called a strigilis, discovered in Trastevere in 1849, is considered to be a Roman copy of the bronze statue of Lysippos, Apoxyomenos (Scraper), which is said to have been placed in front of Agrippa's Baths in the early Roman Empire (Vatican Museum). This statue shows the characteristics of Lysippos' statues, which the ancients described as having a "small head and slender figure." …
