He was known as Jokoin and Manganji, and became the Gon Daisozu Hoin. He opposed Seigan Shotetsu and the Reizei family. He served as the opening clerk of the Wakadokoro (poetry office) during the selection of the "Shin Shoku Kokinshu" in 1433, and participated in many poetry gatherings and poetry contests, including the "Ichijo Kaneyoshi Family Poetry Contest" in 1443, the "Gosukōin Sendō Poetry Contest" in 1450, and the "Hundred Poetry Contest" in 1450. He was an important figure in the poetry circles of both the Imperial Court and the Shogunate, and his disciples included Gyoei and Azuma Tsuneen, who became leading figures in the transmission of the Kokinshu tradition. He also made a great contribution to the copying of classical texts. In addition to his family anthology "Bofu Guginshu" and the waka text "Kei Meisho," he wrote works such as "Gyokyo Hoin Nikki," "Ran Fujiki," and "Ise Kiko." His theory on waka poetry was conveyed in Tsuneen's "Higashinoshu Monsho."
