Carroting - Carroting

…This phenomenon is called felting. For hard animal fibers with poor shrinkage, such as rabbit hair, a preliminary process called carrotting (named after the carrot-like color it turns) is used to soften the fibers and increase their shrinkage, and then the fibers are shrunk to make felt. For worsted fabrics (serge, gabardine, etc.) made from long, fine wool, fulling is not generally performed.
