To the north is the French island of Guadeloupe, and to the south is the French island of Martinique. Dominica is a volcanic island, with many waterfalls and hot spring lakes in its mountainous terrain, and the tropical rainforests that cover the mountainous areas are home to a wide variety of native plants, so the entire island is called the "botanical garden of the Caribbean."
