When a towel or other cloth is folded into a long, thin strip and wrapped around the head and tied at the forehead, it is called a mukou headband, when tied at the back of the head it is called a ushiro headband, and when it is twisted without folding and tucked into the forehead it is called a twisted headband. Wrapping the head with a piece of cloth was probably originally done to prevent hair from becoming messy, but it eventually became a courtesy in front of others and eventually became a long-standing custom, and it is thought that the origin of the headband can be traced back to this. ...
