Kanreidai (deputy governor)

Japanese: 管領代 - かんれいだい

A job title in the Muromachi Shogunate. When Ashikaga Yoshitane was reappointed as Shogun in 1508 (Eisho 5), there is a record that Ouchi Yoshioki, Shugo of Yamashiro, was appointed as Deputy Kanrei in addition to Kanrei Hosokawa Takakuni, but this is not very reliable. During the Sengoku period, the Hosokawa clan was the only de facto Kanrei family, so the Kanrei was not appointed except at the Shogun's installation ceremony, and if the Kanrei was unable to act in his place at that time, a Deputy Kanrei was designated to act in his place. The only example of this in historical records is when Omi Shugo Rokkaku Sadayori was appointed to this position when Ashikaga Yoshiteru became Shogun in 1546 (Tenbun 15).

室町幕府の職名。1508年(永正5)足利義稙が将軍に再任されたとき，管領細川高国とは別に，山城守護の大内義興が管領代に任ぜられたとの記録があるが信憑性は低い。戦国期には実質上管領家は細川氏のみであったため，管領は将軍の就位儀式時以外は補任されず，そのとき管領に故障があった場合，管領代が指定されて管領を代行した。史料的には1546年(天文15)足利義輝が近江坂本で将軍に就位したとき，近江守護六角定頼がこの職に補任されたのが唯一の例。
