An American film company. In 1928, Radio Corporation of America (RCA), a radio patent company, acquired the Keith-Arbee Orpheum (KAO) through several acquisitions, mergers, and alliances, and was established as a film consortium with production, distribution, and exhibition divisions. RCA has a complicated history that goes back to the distribution company Mutual, which was founded in 1912 by J. Fluehler, the owner of the Nickel Odeon, America's first movie theater, which opened in 1905, and the group of independent filmmakers that were under Mutual's umbrella.
