Respect - Sonsho

Japanese: 尊照 - そんしょう

1562-1620 Ada-Toyotomi - A monk from the early Edo period.
Born in 1666. Adopted son of Madenokoji Korefusa. Jodo sect. Became a monk at Rosan-ji in 1620, and studied under his uncle Soho of Chion-in and Tokaku of Daigan-ji. He was adopted by Tokugawa Ieyasu, and became the 29th abbot of Chion-in in 1621. He established the foundation of Chion-in as the head temple of the Jodo sect. He is said to be the founder of the temple's revival. Died on June 25, 1623. He was 59 years old. His pen name was Kyuka, and his pen name was Gyorensha Manyo.

永禄(えいろく)5年生まれ。万里小路惟房(までのこうじ-これふさ)の養子。浄土宗。元亀(げんき)3年盧山寺で出家し,叔父の知恩院の宗甫,大巌寺の虎角に師事。徳川家康の養子となり,文禄(ぶんろく)4年知恩院29世。浄土宗総本山としての基礎をかためた。同院中興の祖といわれる。元和(げんな)6年6月25日死去。59歳。字(あざな)は九花。号は行蓮社満誉。
