Washington [State] - Washington

Japanese: ワシントン[州] - ワシントン
Washington [State] - Washington
A state on the Pacific coast in the northwestern tip of the United States. Abbreviated as Wash. or WA. The Coast Ranges run near the western coast, and the Cascade Mountains run north and south to the east. Puget Sound is located in the northern part of the rift valley between the two mountain ranges. The Columbia Plateau spreads out to the east of the Cascade Mountains, and continues further east to the Rocky Mountains. Irrigation of the Columbia Plateau has been promoted by the Grand Coulee Dam, and a variety of agricultural products such as wheat, apples (one of the best in the United States), hops, potatoes, and asparagus are produced. There is also a large amount of livestock farming, including dairy cows, beef cattle, and sheep, and forestry is also thriving. Food processing, lumber, paper, chemicals, and aircraft and space-related industries have grown significantly. Formerly part of Oregon, it joined the Union in 1889. State capital: Olympia. Largest city: Seattle. 172,119 km2 . 7,061,530 people (2014).
