(Translation of Pāṇḍuravāsinī) Buddhist term. In esoteric Buddhism, a female deity (Kannon Mother) is depicted in the Kannon Temple in the Garbha Mandala, and is considered to be the mother of this temple. She is dressed in white robes, is placed among white lotuses , and holds a lotus in her left hand. In Japan, she is one of the 33 Kannon. Her figure, seated on a rock with a white robe over her head, is often used as a subject for ink paintings.
