White Robed Kannon - Byakue Kannon

Japanese: 白衣観音 - びゃくえかんのん

(Translation of Pāṇḍuravāsinī) Buddhist term. In esoteric Buddhism, a female deity (Kannon Mother) is depicted in the Kannon Temple in the Garbha Mandala, and is considered to be the mother of this temple. She is dressed in white robes, is placed among white lotuses , and holds a lotus in her left hand. In Japan, she is one of the 33 Kannon. Her figure, seated on a rock with a white robe over her head, is often used as a subject for ink paintings. Also known as Hakuchoson. *Records of Visiting Tendai Mount Godai (1072-73), 4: "She brought a white-robed Kannon statue and immediately retired to the hanging wall."
