Functional hyperemia - Yesterday's hyperemia

...congestion occurs when the vasodilator nerves become tense or when the vasoconstrictor nerves become paralyzed. There are also other types of congestion, such as inflammatory congestion caused by inflammation, functional congestion caused by hyperfunction, compensatory congestion in one side of a pair of organs when blood perfusion is stopped or reduced in the other side, and paralateral congestion (also called collateral congestion) in the tissues nearby when blood circulation is stopped or ischemia occurs in a certain area. The tissues turn bright red, become warmer, and can be felt pulsating both subjectively and objectively.
