This is a Chinese architectural structure made by stacking timber in a braided structure. It is known that the Well-Gun Tower built by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty was a huge tower, 50 zhang in height. The term well-gun appears in the Records of the Grand Historian and the Huainanzi, and a bronze drum from the Late Han period unearthed in Yunnan Province has a diagram of a well-gun structured raised-floor food storehouse, which was apparently noticed by the dynasty in the Central Plains at the time as a new southern technology. Even today, this style can be seen in the dwellings of the Han people and ethnic minorities in Yunnan Province and other areas. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
