Functional heart murmurs

A functional heart murmur is a noise that can be heard from the heart even though there is no abnormality in the heart. It is also called an innocent heart murmur. This is a sound that can be heard when the heart is pumping blood normally, and typically sounds like a buzzing sound when the strings of a musical instrument are plucked.

Other noises that can be heard when there is anemia, fever, or after exercise, when the amount of blood pumped out from the heart is high, also fall into this category.

On the other hand, in many cases of congenital heart disease, there is a hole in the wall of the heart ( Defect ( Very soon ) ), narrowing of valves or blood vessels ( constriction ( Kyosaku ) ), valve reflux ( Mitral valve ( Soubouen ) This is the sound of blood leaking from a narrow gap, and sounds like a long hissing or whooshing sound, like the wind blowing.

When such a heart murmur is heard, it is necessary to distinguish it from a functional heart murmur. This is possible to some extent with a stethoscope, but in some cases confirmation by an echocardiogram or other test is necessary.

　機能性心雑音とは、心臓に異常がないのに心臓から聞こえる雑音のことです。無害性心雑音ともいいます。これは、正常に心臓が血液を送り出している時に聞こえる音で、典型的な場合は楽器の弦を鳴らした時のようなブーンという音のようになります。

　そのほか、貧血があったり、発熱、運動後など心臓から送り出される血液量が多い時などに聞こえる雑音もこの分類に入ります。

　一方、多くの先天性の心臓病では、心臓の壁に穴があいていたり（欠損孔(けっそんこう)）、弁や血管が狭かったり（狭窄(きょうさく)）、弁が逆流（僧帽弁(そうぼうべん)の閉鎖不全）しているため、やはり心雑音が聞こえます。これらは狭いすきまから血液がもれる時の音で、風が吹くようなザーとかシューというような長い音として聞こえます。

　このような心雑音が聞こえた場合には、機能性心雑音との区別が必要です。聴診器である程度可能ですが、心エコーなどの検査での確認が必要な場合もあります。
