A type of ground improvement method that improves the water-tightness and safety of the ground by supplying a refrigerant into the ground and freezing the water underground. It is used when excavating soft ground with a high groundwater level or ground under a river. There are two methods: the brine method, in which a cooling liquid is circulated inside a freezing pipe to freeze the ground, and the method in which low-temperature liquefied gas is directly poured into the freezing pipe to freeze the ground using the heat of vaporization. The brine method is generally used. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
