Maze learning

Japanese: 迷路学習 - めいろがくしゅう（英語表記）maze learning

This is a learning experiment that uses a maze. A maze consists of three main parts: a starting point (box), a passageway, and a goal point (box). The passageway has choice points and there are paths leading to the goal and dead ends. The subject is placed at the starting point and is rewarded if he or she reaches the goal after repeated failures. The number of failures decreases with each trial, the time required is shortened, and the process of learning toward completion is depicted as a learning curve. From the perspective of the stimuli the subject receives, it is sequential trial-and-error learning, and from the perspective of function, it is muscle-motor learning and spatial position learning in which goal-directedness is at work.

迷路を使用する学習実験をいう。迷路は出発点(箱)，通路，目標点(箱)の三主要部分からなり，通路には選択点が設けられ目標に通じる路と行きどまりの袋小路がある。出発点におかれた被験体は失敗を重ねながら目標点に達すれば報酬を与えられる。試行ごとに失敗数が減り所要時間が短縮し学習が完成にむかう経過は学習曲線として描かれる。被験体が受ける刺激の観点からは系列的試行錯誤学習であり，機能の点からみれば筋‐運動学習であり目標指向性が働く空間位置学習である。
